Headaches & Jaw Pain (TMJ)

Targeting the Source of Your Chronic Pain

Many people suffer from persistent headaches or debilitating jaw pain without realizing that the cause is often mechanical—stemming from issues in the neck, jaw, or poor posture. Physiotherapy is highly effective in relieving and managing these long-standing, bothersome symptoms.

Headaches (Cervicogenic Headaches)

Headaches are one of the most common ailments. When they become persistent, they can be debilitating. Many headaches, known as cervicogenic headaches, stem from issues in the upper neck, joint stiffness, or chronic muscle tension.

At Healthwise Physio, we utilize the specialized Watson Headache Approach for diagnosis and treatment. This technique focuses on identifying and treating the underlying issues in the cervical spine to achieve long-lasting relief.

Our Trained Practitioners: Alice and Lucy are trained in the Watson Headache Approach. You can read more about this evidence-based method here: Watson Headache Institute

  • Assessment: We perform a thorough assessment of your neck, joint alignment, and general posture to determine if your headaches originate from your cervical spine.
  • Treatment: Treatment focuses on gentle, specific techniques targeting the neck, reducing the frequency and severity of your headaches without relying on medication.

Jaw Pain (TMJ Dysfunction)

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction refers to pain or restriction in the jaw and surrounding areas.

  • Symptoms: This can manifest as pain in the muscles of the face and temples, stiffness, painful clicking, locking, popping, or grating in the jaw joint, and teeth clenching or grinding.
  • Treatment: Physiotherapy focuses on relieving and managing TMJ problems by improving the range of movement, reducing muscle tension, and improving the alignment of the joint.
